Three Fun Facts about Eternity Rings
Out of everything we stock here at Marlow's Diamonds, it's fair to say that it's the range of eternity rings on offer that always conjure the most intrigue from our customers. While everyone knows the function of wedding and engagement rings, and jewellery such as pendants or earrings are very much suited to a whole host of occasions, the purpose of eternity rings is not always so clear.
With this in mind, we thought we'd share three of our favourite facts about eternity rings to give you a bit more of an idea about why they are so special to so many people all over the world.

THEY WERE INVENTED BY THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS

Like many of the traditions we uphold in modern society, they have roots however tenuous in the ancient world. In around 2000 BC, the earliest hieroglyphics found by modern man stated that the symbol used for eternity was the circle (not unlike the wheel of life, seen on the Indian flag) and was associated with the unbreakable bond between a man and a woman. The eternity circle couldn’t be interrupted by anything, not even death.
The ring was created as a symbolic gesture to represent the union shared between two people, and has been found in numerous tombs by archaeologists over the course of the last century or so. From simple rings carved from bone to elaborate gemstone designs, it appears that the eternity ring was prevalent in ancient culture even more so than it is today.

THEY ARE WORN ON THE SAME FINGER AS A WEDDING OR ENGAGEMENT RING

Traditionally, eternity rings have sat either in place of or alongside engagement rings. We have the Egyptians to thank for this, too their belief that the vein of love, running from the fourth finger on the left hand to the heart, needed to be represented by a ring is something we still continue today.
This doesn't mean that eternity rings can only be made for this finger, however; they are now available in customised designs that are suited to fit on any finger or thumb available from our experts here at Marlows Diamonds.

THEY CAN ONLY BE MADE BY JEWELLERS WITH THE HIGHEST OF SKILLS

Due to the intricacies of their design, only the most skilled jewellers are able to craft eternity rings, one of the reasons they are held in such high regard in terms of value, sentiment and gesture. A team will need to work on each individual area separately designing the band itself and ensuring that it can cater for the expertly cut diamonds to fit within the ridges that line the outer layer of the ring itself.
They are extremely difficult to resize, so extra care goes into every step of the process. Each tiny diamond is included within a strict set of measurements, meaning the craftsmanship that goes into its creation must be of the highest order.
If you feel that an eternity ring is the right way to express your feelings of love and commitment, then don't hesitate to get in touch with one of the team here at Marlow's Diamonds today. We'll happily talk you through the range of designs to ensure that you invest in the right ring for your loved one, so give us a call or drop us an email today we are always on hand to help.
