How to Select Wedding Rings

How to Select Wedding Rings

There are quite a few important things to consider when getting married the venue, the vows and the reception to name but a few. However, perhaps the most important consideration of all is that of the wedding ring. Indeed, the wedding ring is the everlasting symbol of matrimonial bliss so it is very important that you are able to make an informed selection when you go shopping with your partner.

In order to do this however, you will first need to be aware of some of the more important aspects that are particular to wedding ring purchases.

Metal The first aspect you will need to consider is that of your preferred metal. Gold wedding rings are the traditional choice, and 18 carat is always popular as it perfectly balances purity (around 75% gold) with durability. A higher carat, (such as 24) is more pure; however it is more likely to bend over time. Conversely, a lower carat (such as 14) is less pure, although it is likely to last longer, as well as cost less to buy. Metals such as silver, platinum and white gold have become increasingly popular in recent years as they look more contemporary than gold.

Size Of course, the size of the ring is also very important. If you have relatively large hands then you may well be able to get away with wearing a wider ring that has more accentuated detail. If you have petite hands however then you will most likely prefer to opt for a ring that is a little more delicate in design. If you are looking to have diamonds set into the band then a wider ring may well be the more sensible choice.

Style There are numerous wedding ring styles available these days so it is worth taking a little bit of time to have a good look at what's on offer. For example, there are patterned wedding rings, court-shaped rings (which are curved gently on the inside and outside), D-shaped rings (which are flat inside and rounded outside), and rings that are flat inside and out. These are just a taster of what's on offer so you can see that you may well need to devote a bit of time to this particular part of the selection process.
