Pink Star

Pink Star

Some fashions come and go, but the demand for pure quality will never disappear. When it comes to making a positive impression there are few stones that can make such a striking impact as a sparkling diamond. Whilst choosing certified diamond rings is a serious business, spare a thought for one special stone which is going up for auction in Geneva this month. The Pink Star is probably going to be the most valuable diamond that has ever been discovered. Sotheby's auction house believes that the incredibly rare find will eventually sell for upwards of £37 million.

As the biggest pink diamond that has ever been graded, the Pink Star is an impressive 59.60 carat gem. Mined in Africa in 1999, it took nearly two years to be cut and polished properly. All diamonds crystallise below the Earth and they have been highly prized for thousands of years by human hands. Whilst diamond rings are always beautiful to look at, the Pink Star is something extremely special.

It is difficult to exaggerate how rare this is. This is a very exciting diamond, said David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's European jewellery division. Apart from the words about how rare it is, it's just such a beautiful stone. Pink diamonds, in my experience, are the most desired of all the colours. I've never shown a pink diamond to somebody who then hasn't liked it. It's a joyful colour. It makes people happy. When you are looking at a diamond like this, you are looking at a real treasure of the earth.

Anyone interested in seeing the Pink Star will probably have to content themselves with looking at photos of it nowadays. However, back in 2005 when the diamond was owned by a private collector, the Natural History Museum in London displayed it as part of its popular Diamonds show. It is safe to say that the vast majority of people will never be able to afford to splash out on such an expensive gem, but that doesn't mean that there aren't other beautiful diamonds out there which are more in fitting with your budget.

There are lots of different types of diamond rings to choose from so it is important to have a proper browse when selecting one as a gift for somebody else or yourself. Some people prefer massive sparklers which light up a room straight away, whereas others prefer a more discreet look. When purchasing a new diamond ring it is inevitable that you may have a few questions that you would like answering. That is why it is always a good idea to seek out the services of the experts who are ready with all the knowledge and information that one may need about diamonds.

It remains to be seen as to how much the Pink Star will eventually sell for. However, one thing is for certain in that there will always be a strong demand for beautiful gemstones. Treat a special person in your life with a diamond ring.
