How to Find Out Your Partner’s Ring Size without Them Knowing

If you're preparing that magical proposal for your partner then it's normal to feel nervous, but don't be!  Most people spend time thinking about the location they'll be performing the proposal, or how they're going to do it, but another huge part is getting the engagement ring just right. How are you supposed to get your partner an engagement ring that fits if you have no idea of their ring size? It's a problem that plagues so many people the world over, but there are a few tips and tricks that you can utilise to get a good idea of the correct size for them. Below we've listed some of our favourites.

Be subtle

You could try finding out the ring size directly from your partner, by asking them in a subtle way. You could pretend that you're buying a ring for a member of their family as a gift, if you know that the family member has hands that are similar in size to your partner. If you want to go one step further then you could try purchasing an inexpensive ring and have them try it on. This way you'll get a good idea of her size and maybe even have enough information to go ahead and get the correct ring.

Ask the friends

Friends can offer valuable insight into the ring size of your partner. Even if they don't know, you could get them to subtly ask your partner when they're together one day. This means you have less risk of your partner guessing your intentions, and the surprise can be kept under wraps until the big day.

Use old rings for reference

Another trick is to find one of your partner's old rings and take it for the day. However you will have to make sure of a few things beforehand, to decrease the likelihood of this method backfiring. You'll have to be sure that your partner wears that ring on a similarly sized finger, with the ring finger of their right hand is the optimal choice. Also be careful not to take a ring that they wear regularly, or one that's overly important to them, as they could become very upset if they notice it missing. If you're terrified of losing one of their rings then you could even place it on a piece of paper, before drawing a line around the inside and outside of it. Do this several times so that your traces are consistent. These sketches can usually give a very good idea about the ring size of your partner.

Ask a friend who's already engaged

If your partner has a friend who is already engaged then ask them to let your partner try on the ring. This will help you figure out a size to begin with, and then you can go from there. Using this method you could even ask your partner what they thought of the friend's ring, and if they liked the style.

Be direct

The stealthy approach isn't for everyone; if you've been speaking about marriage for a while now then there's no harm is asking your partner directly about their ring size. You'll still be able to have the element of surprise as your partner will never know when you're going to pop the question.

Finding out your partner's ring size is one of the trickiest parts of any marriage proposal. You want everything to be perfect, and the ring is an item they're going to be wearing forever. With these tips you should be able to get an idea of their size without them knowing, but remember, being direct about it doesn't have to be so bad! If you're looking for the perfect engagement ring for your partner then Marlow's Diamonds is sure to have the item for you, with beautiful rings that can be cherished for a lifetime.
